Eugene R. Viccaro

Eugene R. "Gene" Viccaro, 57, of Mechanicsburg, died Sunday, January 2, 2005 in Holy Spirit Hospital.

He was born July 10, 1947 in Harrisburg, a son of the late James R. and Esther P. Reed Viccaro.

He was formerly employed as a District Sales Manager with D&H Distributors, Harrisburg, the IBM Corporation, and was the owner and operator of The Box Car (appliances), Herr Street, Harrisburg. He was currently employed as an Emergency Orders Technican with Washington Group International. He was a graduate of William Penn High School, Class of 1965, a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Harrisburg, the American Legion Post 1001, the West Shore Elks and was in the Army National Guard.

During his youth, Gene was a baseball pitcher for American Legion Post 1001 and many other leagues. He was an avid Mickey Mantle and New York Yankees baseball fan and loved Notre Dame and golf. Gene helped organize the Steve Troup Memorial Golf Tournament and coached Hampden Township baseball and Legion baseball. He was a very enthusiastic listener of Motown music and especially the Temptations. Gene was a loving and caring person to his family and friends and will be sadly missed by all.

Surviving are his wife, Annette M. Yannone Viccaro of Mechanicsburg; 2 sons, James and Sean Viccaro; a daughter, Gina Abromaitis and four grandchildren, Jessica, Taylor, Emily and Robby, all of Etters.
Memorial services will be at 12 noon on Saturday, in Malpezzi Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg, with the Rev. Kathleen J. Baker officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, in the funeral home.

At Gene's request, flowers are to be omitted. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central PA, 98 S. Enola Drive, P.O. Box 266, Enola, PA 17025.
